Summary

Mechanism of action

Neurotrophic signaling (BDNF/TrkB)

One of its most notable findings is the rapid induction of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and activation of the TrkB receptor, central mechanisms of synaptic plasticity, memory, and neuronal survival.

Neurotransmission and neuroprotection

It modulates dopaminergic and serotonergic systems and melanocortin receptors (MC4, MC5), and inhibits the degradation of endogenous enkephalins, prolonging their neuromodulatory effect.

Antioxidation and gene expression

It regulates genes linked to oxidative stress and forms complexes with copper ions (Cu²⁺), which reinforces its neuroprotective profile.

Scientific evidence

BDNF/TrkB: Studies in rodent hippocampus describe an increase in BDNF and its mRNA expression 30-90 minutes after administration (Dolotov et al.), with sustained activation of the TrkB pathway.

Neuroprotection: In cerebral ischemia models, it has been associated with reduced neuronal damage; in Russia, it is clinically used in the acute phase of stroke and in cognitive disorders.

Antioxidation: Assays in neuronal cultures show a reduction in oxidative stress markers.
